Kamaroi’s new performance hall.

The Commonwealth ‘Building the Education Revolution’ initiative has been a real boon for Kamaroi. We are enjoying the benefits of the National Schools Pride component which financed a new ball wall, a rebuilt ‘breezeway’ outdoor terraced performance and play space, plus yet (hopefully not) to be used bushfire readiness equipment and buildings refurbishments.

The big money was of course reserved for ‘Primary Schools in the 21st Century’ projects and our unquestioned need was for a performance hall. As of the end of May we are five months into construction and we can quite clearly see the shape of things to come.
Due to Sydney’s amazingly frequent rain events we are now more than two weeks behind the construction schedule and handover will be delayed by every rain day from here on. However, I have little doubt that the hall we be up and in use by week one of fourth term.

Costs are within budget as few variations have been necessary and we are all very excited at the daily changes now apparent.

Northern Building has been marvellous in their management of the site, their appreciation for and sensitivity to our particular needs and communications. Our architect, Mark Baxter, meets on site every week with the Northern Building site and project manager and our school business manager.

Immediately on completion this project will provide us– a performance hall, which will be used as an occasional wet weather P E space, new toilets, new (replacement) remedial education room, music practice room, costume and chair storage rooms, plus a new space, including courtyard, for our parent association activities. As construction involved demolition of the old closed in veranda, a new staff room is also being built.
Construction is at Administration building ground level, providing the opportunity for other future developments underneath and will include a permanent craft classroom, additional toilets including a disabled access toilet, another music tutoring room and a school kitchen.
Of course all the above will outlook onto a new piazza area providing lovely outdoor education and community opportunities.

All in all an exciting year for major improvements which will all add significant value to our education programs.
